LCD TVs: All About LCD TVs
LCD TVs or Liquid Crystal Display televisions are the ever-popular flat-screened television seen in stores all over the world. Further, LCD TVs have flat screens because they rely on the same technological advances used to create laptop screens, monitors and cell phones. Further, LCD TVs are not the same thing as plasma television sets and are special in their own right.
Plasma televisions rely on the use of a florescent light bulb whereas LCD TVs rely on crystals to obstruct or emit light. The reason that Plasma televisions are so named is because their display screens consist of a series of cells. Each cell possesses two pieces of glass that hold between them gases that are activated when the Plasma screen is turned on. Conversely, LCD TVs do not rely on special lighting or gases to produce images. Further LCD TVs, because they do not have special gases in their screens, are more energy efficient as they require less electricity to function.
LCD televisions possess two layers of polarized material; material that is similar to glass. The first layer is coated with a polymer that holds crystals in place and both layers are attached to one another. What is unique about LCD TVs is that such televisions use electricity to create the images that appear on the screen; electricity is sent through the various crystals contained between the two layers of glassy material and the crystals, in turn, either obstruct or permit light to pass through them.
LCD TVs are increasingly popular because they require a limited amount of electricity to run due to their flat screens. Subsequently, they also significantly reduce the amount of heat they produce. Finally, LCD TVs are popular because their flat screens prove to be excellent space savers; LCD TVs can be set up in places that bulky televisions have virtually no chance of being installed; LCD TVs can be installed on any wall in a home and can easily be rested on any standard piece of furniture.
Interestingly, LCD TVs also possess a unique health benefit; they emit no radiation whatsoever. Standard televisions emit radiation every time they are turned on and into today’s environmentally conscious society such a fact is a cause for concern. Thus, LCD TVs are thoroughly enjoyed by individuals that are environmentally aware of various health risks associated with standard televisions.
Unfortunately, LCD TVs can not be purchased with extensively large screens, thus if a consumer desires to a big screen television, they will have to opt for a Plasma Television. The reason that LCD TVs do not come with extensively large screens is because it would not be cost effective to produce them. LCD TVs are far more expensive to produce over their Plasma counterparts.
Consumers can effectively purchase LCD TVs with a relatively large screen size—as much as 37 inches. Nevertheless, the larger television screens are dominated by the Plasma television manufacturers and distributors; such televisions possess screens anywhere from 42 inches and up. |
